  • Historic:   A Texas Main Street certified city. Historic downtown area with shops and dining.
  • Comments: Interesting fact: The city was established in 1854 and was named after James Hamilton Jr., and American lawyer and politician from South Carolina. Hamilton Jr. served as the 53rd Governor of South Carolina and personally loaned $216,000 to the Republic of Texas - thus making him an important member of Texas history. Hamilton drowned when his steamboat sunk in 1857 off the coast of Galveston, after yielding his seat in a lifeboat to a women and child.

  • limited. We ate at the Road House Family Diner. We enjoyed the southern style fare and colorful service. Other places that we will explore on future missions include Burger Land (fries are to die for), Jax Gourmet Burgers, Paris Bakery, Pit Happens BBQ, Garibaldi Mexican Restaurant, and others. > 1 mile
  • Historic: Paris is a Texas Main Street certified city. Paris is known as the "North Star of Texas". The historic downtown square is the heart of the city. Shops, restaurants, galleries, businesses reside within historic storefronts. The disastrous fire of 1916 destroyed thousands of structures in Paris, including downtown. The ensuing rebuild boasts one of the most extensive groupings of early 20th century architecture in the country.
  • A city commissioned a 65-foot-tall (20 m) replica of the Eiffel Tower in 1993 and installed it on site of the Love Civic Center, southeast of the town square. In 1998, presumably as a response to the 1993 construction of a 60-foot-tall (18 m) tower in Paris, TN, the city placed a giant red cowboy hat atop its tower. The current Eiffel Tower replica is at least the second one, as an earlier replica constructed of wood was destroyed by tornado. We have visited this location on 1/31/21 and 3/31/21.
